LILIES, CANNAS, CALLAS & MORE

If daisies and gladiolas are just too ordinary for you, then perhaps these bulbs might suit your fancy. Don't let their dramatic colors and lush foliage fool you, they are actually easy to grow.  (These are shipped in the spring, from March to June)

ORIENTAL LILIES

Oriental lilies are one of the most beautiful of all the lilies, and their fragrance permeates the garden air. These are the lilies that florists prefer for cut flowers. Blooming later in the season than most lilies, these exotic beauties are truly spectacular in color and flower size.

Variety Picture Description
Muscadet Lilium oriental "Muscadet" Pure white with pink spots, a soft pink star and red stamens Large flowers are great for cut flowers. Plants grow 28" to 36" tall
Starfighter Lilium oriental "Starfighter" Wine red petals edged with white. Burgundy spots on the petals. 30" to 40" tall.

CALLA LILIES

These California Callas will add a touch of class to any garden. The upright, cup-shaped  trumpets are about 5" tall and 2 to 3" across. They thrive in full sun to partial shade, and are excellent for containers. These plants are hardy in zones 9 to 11, everywhere else the bulbs should be lifted in the fall for winter storage, or grown indoors.

Elliottianna Zantedeschia  "Elliotiana" Large, 2½" to 3" deep buttery yellow flowers glow atop 14 to 20"stems. Broad arrow shaped, spotted leaves.
Purple Sensation Zantedeschia  "Purple Sensation" Royal purple color looks like satin exploding from the lush, green foliage.

CANNAS

Cannas, with their lush, tropical foliage and showy gladiolus-like flowers, make beds and borders come alive with their bright colors all summer long. These plants are hardy in zones 7 to 11, elsewhere you will have to dig up and store the rhizomes.

The President Very large, bright red flowers with deep green foliage. The most popular canna. 36" to 48" tall
Yellow King Humbert Canna  "King Humbert Yellow" Bright yellow petals with red spots. Foliage is dark green. Grows 48" to 60" tall.
Giant Canna Mixture Canna, Mixed Dwarf Product: 5648 Lush, tropical foliage topped with showy flowers. Colors include red, yellow, red-orange, rose and salmon. 36" to 60"

SPECIALTY BULBS

Well, here is the "and more" part of this section. These effusive bloomers deserve a much better name as you will see. Generally these bulbs are not winter hardy unless listed.  Dig in the fall and store in a frost-free area during winter.

Florida Cardinal Caladium

 

Image of Caladium Florida Cardinal Attractive, long-lasting foliage, grow well in full to partial shade. Superior indoor plant, excellent in the garden and superb for the watergarden. Grows to 12-18" tall. Large striking cardinal red leaves with a wide, deep green border. Dig up in the fall.
Agapanthus, Delft Duo

(this is a mixture of delft blue and white flowers, not just the blue ones shown.)

Agapanthus  "Blue" Excellent container blend of cobalt blue and glacier white. Return year after year. Blooms July through August. 18" to 36" tall.
Double Hybrid Mixed Color Freesia Freesia double "Mixed" Handsome green, sword-like foliage with large, double blooms. Pink, white, red, blue and yellow flowers. 18" to 24" These like warm soil temperatures, so dig these up in the fall!
Giant Ranunculus (Persian Buttercups) Ranunculus  Large, double and semi-double flowers on long stems. Pink, purple, red, orange, white, yellow flowers. Blooms early summer. 10" to 15" tall Needs warm soil temperatures, dig up in the fall.
Elephant Ears Colocasia esculenta Showy plants are great for dense screening. Can be used as a container plant. Large, tropical dark green leaves accented by purple blotches between the veins. Grows 36" to 60" Needs warm soil temperatures. dig these bulbs up in the fall.
Lily of the Valley Attractive foliage with fragrant white, bell-shaped flowers. blooms May through June. 6" to 8" Great for ground covers. Naturalize well.
Trillium Grandiflorium Snowy White Snowy Trillium Large, pointed leaves at the top of each stem with large, white flowers. Flowers turn to pink. 12" tall. Grow best in cool, shady spots in moist, well-drained organic soil. Naturalizes well.
