PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

Gladiolas prefer a sunny location in well drained soil. The taller varieties may require some sort of support to prevent toppling over. Plant the bulbs approximately 4" deep and space them 4" apart. Rows should be 18" apart. Planting can occur from March through June. Staggering the planting times will prolong the blooming times. Bone meal or a high phosphorus fertilizer applied after planting will help promote large blooms. In the fall, after the foliage has yellowed, carefully dig up the bulbs. Discard any diseased or deformed bulbs. Cut off the foliage close to the bulb and shake off any loose soil. Store bulbs where they are not exposed to freezing temperatures in an open mesh bag or packed in peat moss, perlite or vermiculite until it is time to plant again in the spring.
