PASTURE TIPS
With all pastures, it is essential to properly prepare the seed bed before planting. The rate of seeding should be enough to give a satisfactory stand. Inoculate the seed if necessary, and be certain that the lime and fertilizer requirements of the soil are met. Most pastures do best in neutral to slightly acidic soils. In the absence of a soil test, lime is generally added at a rate of 50 lb. per 1,000 sq. ft., and fertilizer (i.e. 12-12-12) is added at a rate of 50 lb per 5,000 sq. ft.
