De Bruyn Seed Store has been known in Michigan for 50 years for the seed potatoes, onion sets, asparagus roots, horseradish, shallots, garlic and sweet onion plants it sells. We carry many of the hard to find varieties. Note that these are perishable commodities, and therefore we will ship these only when the weather permits us to here in Michigan.

SEED POTATOES

Variety Days Description
Irish Cobbler Early A white, round potato with deep set eyes. An old fashioned favorite. Stores well. Used for fresh and boiling.
Kennebec Midseason An oblong, white potato with shallow eyes. Resistant to late blight. Excellent storage ability. Used for baking and boiling. Popular with home gardeners.
Onaway Early A white, round potato with medium eyes. Good yields with few internal defects. Good flavor. Used for fresh and boiling.
Russet Norkotah Midseason A large, high quality, oblong baking type potato. Does not produce knobs when grown in uneven soil moisture. Award winner.
Russet Burbank Late A large, oblong, russet shaped potato. Good long term storage. Resistant to scab. Used for baking, fresh, frozen.
Sebago Late A white, round potato with shallow eyes. Smooth skin. Stores well. Good all around potato.
Superior Early A white, round potato with shallow eyes. Some scab resistance. Well shaped, attractive. Used for fresh, boiling, chips.
Red Norland Early A red, round potato with shallow eyes and thin skin. Produces lots of silver dollar sized tubers. Smooth appearance. Used for fresh and boiling.
Red Pontiac Midseason A large, oblong red potato with deep eyes. High yields. Stores well. Dark red color. Used for fresh, boiling
Red La Soda Late A large, round potato with deep eyes. Deep red color. Stores well. Grower favorite. Used for fresh, boiling 
Adirondack Red Early Slightly netted purplish-red skin with red flesh. Oblong, slightly flattened. Shallow eyes. Good storage.
Yukon Gold Midseason A yellow, round to oblong potato with shallow eyes. Resistant to mosaic. Creamy texture. Yellow color inside and outside. Used for fresh, boiling, baking.
German Butterball Late A gourmet favorite for its beautiful yellow color and exceptional flavor. Can be prepared in a multitude of ways, boiling, steaming, baking, frying, and especially good for hash browns. Produces many oblong potatoes with netted yellow skin and shallow eyes.
Austrian Crescent Midseason Smooth tan-yellow flesh and skin. Prolific yields of 4 to 8 ounce fingerling type potatoes (crescent shaped with tapered ends.) Can grow to 10 inches.
Adirondack Blue

 

Early Noted for its consistently blue flesh and purplish-blue skin. Good yield of medium sized tubers. Excellent flavor. Retains color when cooked.
Russian Banana (yellow fingerling) Late Heirloom potato. Savory, finger sized yellow tubers that are exquisite baked, boiled or in salads. Crescent shaped with tapered ends. Unsurpassed culinary quality.

ONION SETS

Variety Days Description
Yellow Rock 100 Slightly flattened, brownish-yellow bulb. General all-around onion. Large size. Stores well. Good quality
White Ebenezer 100 Oblate, white bulbs. Firm, medium sized onion with a pungent taste. Fair storage ability.
Red Burgundy 110 Southern type short day onion. Large, flattened globes, 3 to 4 inches in diameter. Dark red skin, soft red flesh with red rings. Very mild and sweet. Short storage.
Sweet Delight 100 Characteristic thick, flat shape. Very sweet and mild flavor. Yellow skin color, attractive. Poor to fair storage.

TEXAS SWEET ONION PLANTS 

Color Description
Yellow Long day onion, globe shaped.  Yellow flesh is mild flavored & fairly sweet. Large sized onion. Good storage. Used for fresh, cooking, onion rings.
White Long day onion, large globe shape bulb.  White flesh is firm with a sweet, mild flavor. Fair storage ability. Used for fresh, cooking and onion rings.
Red Long day onion. Large sized, globe shaped with crisp red and white flesh. Fair storage.

SWEET POTATOES

Variety Description
Beauregard 90 days, matures fast. Red-orange skin with moist, deep orange flesh. Extremely high yields of large tubers. Resist cracking. Does best with adequate nutrition and plastic row covers.

GARLIC

Variety Description
Soft Neck Stalkless variety that have soft braidable leaves. Produces many cloves per bulb. Adaptable to varying climates and soils. Stores well.

SHALLOTS

Variety Description
Pikant Uniform in size. Stores well. Tender and spicy with a pungent flavor that mellows and sweetens when cooked.  Easy to grow. Tops can be cut like chives.

2 YEAR OLD ASPARAGUS ROOTS

Variety Description
Jersey Knight High yielding as this variety produces mainly male plants, rather than female plants that devote all their energy into making seed heads. Large, 5/8" diameter spears are tipped with purplish tints. Good disease resistance.
Purple Passion Popular European variety. Medium sized spears are very sweet and tender. Good disease resistance. Purple spears turn green when cooked.

HORSERADISH

Variety Description
Czechoslovakian Creamy white colored root. Pungent flavor. Easy to grow into beautiful, long, straight, easy to peel roots.
