Peanuts

Peanuts are not really nuts, but are in the legume family and are related to beans and lentils. A mature peanut plant produces approximately 40 pods that will grow into peanuts. The peanut plant flowers above ground and then migrates underneath the soil to reach maturity. Did you know that 2 American Presidents were peanut farmers? Jimmy Carter and Thomas Jefferson both farmed peanuts.

One peanut plant yields 50 to 100 peanuts. 1/2 lb. is needed for a 100 foot row, 140 lb. per acre.
