Peas have been an important part of our diet for over 5000 years. While they may be low in calories, they are high in flavor, vitamins and anti-oxidants. Peas are an easy-to-grow crop, and like all other legumes, also help build up poor soils. Sir Winston Churchill summed up the pea's important, yet lowly status when he said: "We lived simply, but with all the essentials of life well understood and provided for; hot baths, cold champagne, new peas and old brandy."
